Chiropractic Care and ADHD in Children

ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) in kids is a common disorder, but still may cause a lot of anxiety for their parents. It’s hard to know how to proceed, especially when it’s affecting a child’s school performance and behavior. We all want the best for our kids, but does the best always mean stimulant medication when it comes to ADHD?

While you should always consult with your trusted Pediatrician and do what’s best for you and your family, at Golden Family Chiropractic, we’ve seen excellent results in our pediatric patients with ADHD. While chiropractic care isn’t a solitary treatment for the disorder, it can play a vital role in a larger plan (whether naturopathic or with medication) of your child’s treatment.

Spinal adjustments help the body by addressing spinal dysfunctions and improving the function of the nervous system. The nerves in our body need to work effectively in order for our brains and bodies to function properly. Spinal misalignments, which will affect the nervous system, can cause behavioral issues in kids, such as impulsivity and hyperactivity. Cervical techniques, used to realign the spine and skull, have also shown great improvement in behavioral issues associated with ADHD.

A recent study followed four children who used chiropractic care as a tool in their care plan, and reported that, “our findings found improvement in ADHD symptoms (ie, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattentiveness, as well as behavioral, social, or emotional difficulties) and provide supporting evidence on the effectiveness of chiropractic in the treatment of children with ADHD.”

Combined with other natural alternatives, such a diet modification, supplements and environmental factors at home and school, chiropractic care can address issues from the inside, out, helping restore nerve and brain function in kids with ADHD.
